“We lose the forest and we lose the opportunity” | Interview with the newspaper A crítica
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE AMAZON 4.0 INSTITUTE GIVES AN INTERVIEW TO THE MANAUS-AM NEWSPAPER A CRÍTICA.
This week, Ismael Nobre, Executive Director of Amazônia 4.0 Institute, was interviewed in Manaus by the newspaper A crítica. The main topic of conversation was the future prospects for the bioeconomy in the Amazon.
“It’s interesting to say that nothing is left empty. If you don’t optimize the forest’s potential for sustainable development, that place will be developed in some way, so we end up losing the forest and losing the opportunity.” (Ismael Nobre – interview with the newspaper A crítica, 2022)
In the speech above, Ismael demonstrates the urgency of changing the type of development currently taking place in the Amazon rainforest. And that all the potential present in the region is not being used in the best way.

During the interview, Ismael pointed out that over the years, development in the Amazon region has been growing, but based on an economy of extracting raw materials and exporting them for processing in other regions of the country and abroad.
This form of economy does not bring local development. As a result, the Amazon does not have its potential leveraged. Potential that could be exploited with a sustainable economy that conserves the forest, as the Director said during the interview.
