Industry 4.0 within the forest: Socio-biodiversity bioeconomy
Welcome to the Amazon Creative Labs The economy in harmony with nature
Amazonia 4.0 through the Amazon Creative Labs (ACLs) brings industry 4.0 combined with bioeconomy and knowledge of biodiversity into the forest with the aim of seeking effective solutions in climate action.
The ACLs are mobile training and prototyping units for high value-added products and processing, which operate in traditional communities representing Amazonian peoples. These are communities located in protected areas, agrarian reform settlements, quilombola territories, riverine populations, and indigenous peoples.
Each community brings a different context of cultural characteristics and relationship with the forest.
The ACL has reached Amazonian communities
The Amazon Creative Lab Cupuaçu-Cacao had its first edition held in the Surucuá community within the Tapajós-Arapiuns Extractive Reserve. With the aid of modern technologies, strategic thinking, and co-creating with local communities, the ACL is a link between the participation of traditional peoples – as key players in a forest economy – and the biodiversity value chains, combining cultural protection with sustainable innovation. We demonstrate the potential of a vibrant and sustainable bioeconomy where technology and tradition go hand to hand.
The Amazon is a source of resources to boost the progress of the bioeconomy.
ACL IN SURUCUÁ BY THE NUMBERS
ACHIEVED RESULTS
- Incorporation of quality into processes and products, as well as adding artistic and cultural personality.
- New technologies enabling value addition with certification of origin of the final products.
- Innovations in business, logistics, and communication areas for products commercialization.
- The factory system has facial recognition biometrics with access for registered operators only.
- New recipes that unite innovation with traditional knowledge with uniquely identified products.
- Learning on the online platform about business and sales in e-commerce channels.
- Trading at the cultural closing event with support from the solar-powered climate-controlled tricycle.
Small-scale innovation to design and find effective solutions alongside the peoples of the Amazon.
The ACL Phases
DESIGN
From academic research and dialogues with Amazonian communities, the biological asset that will be worked on as a product is chosen. We then dive into the value chains and co-create in technologies and manufacturing processes.
DEVELOPMENT
With a diverse and qualified team to drive technological transformations, we begin the construction and assembly of laboratories with solutions and development in various areas.
TRAINING
We take the ACL to the Amazon, implement it and carry out training and demonstration exercises with local communities. The teaching strategy is carried out at local events (towns, villages, settlements, and other communities).
The main value chains of the ACLs.
In 2023, we implemented the Amazon Creative Lab (ACL) for the Cupuaçu and Cocoa chains in the heart of the Amazon. We also have research aimed at other chains including Brazil Nut, Açaí, Olive Oils, and Genomics from which we can add value within the forest.

Check out who is with us and a little of our story
We are honoured and happy to have such generous partners. More important than the support they have given us is the ideological alignment we have – our desire to change the current scenario, to return the Amazon and Brazil to the leading role they deserve, and above all, respect the Forest.
