AMZ 4.0 • Institutional
We are the alternative to ensure the sustainable development of the world’s largest tropical forest.
We unite nature
and industry 4.0
Based on the bioeconomy, we integrate the economic potential of Amazonian socio-biodiversity with new technologies and opportunities that emerge from the 4th Industrial Revolution, generating high-value-added products.
Non-profit
organization
We are an institution formed by scientists and researchers that works in partnership with organizations whose main task is to deliver environmental solutions for the collective well-being.
Innovation from
the forest
We work in partnership with local communities, learning and sharing knowledge that can improve everyone’s lives, including the animals and trees that inhabit the Amazon.
Understanding the
problem
For years, the complexity of the Amazon region has been debated only in terms of the dichotomy between exploitation vs. preservation, not taking into account all the possibilities that nature offers: high technology, resilience, regenerative capacity and fine survival strategies.
In today’s scenario, the export of low-value-added products and the uncontrolled extraction of natural resources at derisory prices, combined with the expansion of the agricultural frontier for the production of commodities and industrial-scale mining.
These practices result in increased deforestation and are leading the Amazon to a point of no return from 25% of degraded forest, which will culminate in its irreversible savannization if nothing is done.
The positive impact
of the bioeconomy
Projections from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) indicate that within a decade, the bioeconomy is expected to represent 2.7% of the GDP of the wealthiest countries. Meanwhile, the global macroeconomic study Changes in the Global Value of Ecosystem Services states that an intact Amazon Forest could generate up to R$ 7 trillion per year for Brazil. Our goal is to ensure that the world's largest tropical forest plays a leading role in the bioeconomy. And we are working towards this with technology and education. While helping in the production of high-value-added items, we also introduce concepts of entrepreneurship and business to the local communities.
Leadership
To succeed in its mission, the Amazonia 4.0 program relies on a highly qualified team with a special combination of scientific and technological knowledge, as well as players with management expertise. We also have institutional guidance from our councils.
